A Guide to Worthington

3

Worthington has so much to offer!  Today we’re exploring some fun places in this Northern Columbus suburb!

Are you new to Columbus or looking to explore another one of our great suburbs?  If so, you’re in luck because today I’m sharing a little about the north-side suburb of Worthington and some of the fun, kid-friendly things to do!

I’ve broken this guide down in the areas of Play, Restaurants, Treats and Shopping!

Play

1.Worthington Libraries (Pictured Below)

  • With 3 branches, you can never be far from one of their locations.  Their events calendar is packed full of storytimes for all ages and other fun, seasonal events like Bring the Farm to You, a Summer Concert Series and a Monster Mash Dance Party at Halloween.

2. The Shops at Worthington Place

  • When the weather is too hot or rainy to play outside, many locals head to the playground located inside the mall.  The mall is not usually very crowded so when Emily tires of the playground, she can run down the corridor to the small fountain where she likes to throw in coins.  There are also a few food places if you want to make this a lunch & play combo.

3. Firefly Play Café

  • They’re technically located just south of Worthington in Clintonville, but it’s close enough that I’m adding it to the list.  It’s one of our favorite play cafes in Columbus.  They have a large area to play, an indoor bounce house, as well as entertainment in the form of Mr. Eric (music) and Erica Carlson (storytime), who visit a few times each month!

4. Worthington Community Center

  • Even if you’re not a resident or member, you can take advantage of the local community center.  They have loads of classes for little ones, ranging from tumble or swim lessons to fun art classes.  They also have a large pool you can get day passes to as well as family-friendly events around the holidays.

Restaurants

1. Pies & Pints

  • This not only happens to be a favorite for my husband and I, but Emily too!  They have an item called the “kids plate” which you can order right when you sit down and they bring it out in a matter of minutes.  It consists of grilled chicken or pepperoni and grapes (cut), cheese and pineapple. This keeps Emily happy and occupied while waiting for our pizza and thus, hubby and I happy as well!

2. Rusty Bucket  (Pictured Below)

  • Another favorite for the whole family. Not only do they have a large menu for my husband and I to choose from, but they also do for the kids.  Emily loves their veggie pizza, mac ‘n cheese and fruit cup.  They also have cute kid cups with sturdy lids and straws, which I find not all restaurants which claim to be kid-friendly, have.

3. Whitney House

  • For older children, or better behaved little ones, the Whitney House is a great option located in the quaint downtown area if you’re looking for something fancier.  We have yet to take Emily, but my husband and I have been several times and have always been happy with both the food and service!  They have a great kids menu too, with options like Roasted Salmon, Hangar Steak or Skewered BBQ Shrimp.

Treats

1. Peace, Love and Little Donuts

  • If you’re looking for a breakfast treat, this is the place to go!  There are enough options of toppings to suit every like, ranging from cinnamon and sugar to maple bacon!  Plus, it’s fun for the kids because you can watch the donuts being made while you wait.

2. Greater’s Ice Cream (Pictured Below)

  • A local ice cream institution that everyone knows, Graeter’s has a great location right downtown.  With lots of seating both indoors and out, this makes for the perfect treat any time of the year.

3. Cookie Dough Creamery

  • If you want soft-serve ice cream with a twist, Cookie Dough Creamery might just be what you’re looking for.  Their soft-serve ice cream (not frozen yogurt) can be topped with a large selection of toppings, including several types of edible cookie dough! Also, you pay per the size cup, not weight, which really allows you to load your cup!

4. Sassafras Bakery

  • No town would be complete without a cute bakery and Sassafras fits the bill in Worthington.  They offer a multitude of sweet treats like cookies, brownies and pies as well as a delicious lunch menu full of sandwiches, soup and quiche.  Don’t forget about their milk and cookie happy hour from 3-5 on weekdays, where you get a free glass of milk or cup of coffee with every cookie purchase!  Note: Now open 7 days a week!

Shopping

1. Lilly Limes

  • Located inside the Shops at Worthington Place, Lilly Limes has a wide variety of children’s items ranging from clothing to cute gift ideas to books.  Plus, if you’re buying something as a gift they offer a free gift wrap service! How nice is that?  They also have a story time for little ones on Tuesdays at 10:30.

2. Igloo Letter Press & Swoonful Gifts

  • Igloo calls themselves a “modern letterpress printer” where you can create your own custom printings, take all kinds of printing-related classes and shop for fun and unique gifts!  Swoonful Gifts, located in the front of the store, sells everything from handmade jewelry, to candles and cards.  It’s the perfect place if you need a unique gift for yourself or a friend!

3. Fritzy Jacobs

  • Located just doors away from Igloo Letter Press in downtown Worthington is Fritzy Jacobs.  I love this store!  They sell fun and unique items for your home, children and yourself!  Whether you’re looking for a new piece of jewelry, a baby gift for a friend or maybe some new and fun kitchen towels, Fritzy Jacobs has it.  I definitely suggest a trip!

Do you have a favorite spot in Worthington that I’ve missed?  I would love for you to share it with me below in the comments!

  1. Yes, I love being a Worthington resident! And don’t forget, Rusty Bucket has one of the best (if not the best ever) Kids Eat Free programs. It’s a reading program too! Just ask for a Bucketeer Bookworm Bookmarks to keep track and earn free kids meals for all the kiddos in your family!

  2. Vernacular is a fav! Super cute boutique with really reasonable prices for wardrobe and home decor. ❤️
